QCF WAMITAB/CIWM Operator Competence Certificates

We provide training, mentoring and assessment for this fundamental qualification of the WAMITAB/CIWM operator competence scheme.

WAMITAB qualifications are divided into statutory and non statutory awards. Statutory awards  such as the WAMITAB/CIWM Operator competence scheme are those that are required by law to undertake certain roles in the waste industry. Non statutory awards provide a way for employees to prove their job competence and gain a real qualification.

The Qualification and Credit framwork (QCF) is a system for recognising skills and qualifications. It does this by awarding credit for qualifications and units (small steps of learning). Each unit has a credit value. This value specifies the number of credits gained by learners who complete that unit. The flexibility of the system allows learners to gain qualifications at their own pace along routes that suit them best. They replace the NVQ system previously used to assess competence in the waste management industry.

Background

Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) 2007 in England and Wales require permitted waste facilities to demonstrate they employ technically competent personnel.

Operator Competence Scheme – Risk Tiers

Different types of facility and the waste they accept present different levels of environmental risk. The WAMITAB/CIWM scheme categorises them into three “risk tiers” – High, Medium and Low.

How does this affect training?

The higher the risk level, the more areas you will need to demonstrate competence in:

  • High Risk Sites – need 12 Qualification Credit Framework (QCF) units
  • Medium Risk Sites – require 6 Qualification Credit Framework (QCF) units
  • Low Risk Sites – must complete 4 Qualification Credit Framework (QCF) units.

What we can do

We can assess these qualifications within your workplace. We will appoint a dedicated assessor to mentor you through the units in your particular qualification. You as a learner will be required to build a portfolio of evidence, much of which is done during your normal working activities. This is then assessed against the WAMITAB/CIWM standards.

Benefits to you

  • Understand and comply with Environmental and Waste Management Legislation
  • Save time and disruption as on-site training means no lengthy off-site training days
  • Develop your technical, people and management skills
  • Improve your organisation’s environmental compliance, health and safety and financial results through improved working practices
  • Demonstrate competence under the Environmental Permitting Regulations.
